Western Australia has such an abundance
and richness of fauna and flora, that whether you live on a farm or even in
suburbia you will be surrounded by wildlife. We should all be caretakers
of our own natural heritage and take some responsibility for its well being.

If you find an animal in distress you
CAN help
You can help the animal yourself, or if you lack the
confidence or time, you should at the very least call
someone who can.

Never leave an animal to
suffer or die.
Never tease or hit animals!
-
Call
the Wildcare phone line on 94749055. They may be able to tell you where to take
the animal or who can help you.
-
If you think
you can quickly and confidently capture the animal with minimal stress to the
animal and no danger to yourself, you should do so. All you need is a
towel or old jumper or some sacking and a cardboard box.
-
Get the animal to a carer straight away. Never wait to "see if it is going to make it" or keep it over night with out care. The animal has a better chance of making it if you get it to someone who can help it straight away.
How to rescue an animal:
-
Plan how you are going to catch the animal before you begin
-
You should grab the animal quickly
-
wrap it in your towel/jumper
-
place it in the cardboard box quickly, making sure it is securely closed
-
place it in a quiet place and don't
disturb it
-
do not feed the animal
-
do not take the animal to school
-
Get the animal some care as soon as
possible.
-
Never wait more than 24hrs before
getting it to a wildlife carer
-
Never try to capture reptiles,
birds of prey or adult kangaroos
