Rough Scaled Python

of Western Australia
  Morelia carinata

Along with the South Western Woma the Rough Scaled python is possibly one of the rarest snakes in the world. (According to the Australian Reptile Park).   Recorded only from Mitchell River falls in the north-west Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Photographed at Perth Zoo

This is a very remote area of the Kimberley and access is difficult so it is unknown as to how may snakes of this species are there.

It is called the Rough Scaled python because every scale on its back bares a central keeled ridge.

The body length is approx 176 cm long.

It is the only python in the world with rough or keeled scales.

 What do they eat?

Unknown.  There is much to learn about this snake.
