Long-nosed Water Dragon Gemmatophora  longirostris

Photographed at Wanna Manna near Newman in the Pilbara WA

This is a slender dragon with a very long tail and long legs. The white or sometimes yellow stripe goes from behind the ear to the base of the tail.  Another stripe goes from the lower jaw to the base of the ear.

 From snout to vent they are approx 110mm long.

 What do they eat?

They are arthropod feeders.

This is a yellow grasshopper that we saw at Wanna Manna in September.

These photographs were taken at Wanna Munna just out of Newman in the Pilbara WA in December.  There were several Long nosed water dragons here.

 This dragon lives in arid and coastal areas as far south as the middle of Murchison area.  Sleeping in hollows in cooler weather or on tree branches on warm evenings.

Because they climb trees they live in woodlands and around waterways.

 They are diurnal. They are both ground and tree dwellers.  These dragons are swift runners on their hind legs.  We saw a Long-nosed Water dragon run up the side of the road on its hind legs to the nearest small tree where it quickly climbed.

This photograph was taken on Marble Bar Rd in the eastern Pilbara region in December.

Update;

Three Long-nosed water dragons were found at the gorges in Kalbarri on the coast in December.  See how it is lifting its feet off the hot rock.
