Yanchep National Park |
|
One Sunday we set off to
visit Moore River. It seems to be a popular holiday destination. We
had previously tried to camp at the camping ground there, only to find
that it was fully booked over the summer break. On arrival I have to
admit that we were all a little disappointed with Moore River.
We saw the inlet where the river enters the ocean, we went for a walk
along the river bank but we couldn't see why it was so popular, so we
decided to go to Yanchep
National Park on
the way home to Perth.
At Yanchep National park
there are different sections to explore but we stayed around the lake
area. We went for a walk around the whole lake in search of a Ghost
house. On the walk we saw many water
birds, glowing
fungi, a
lizard in a log,
we heard sounds of frogs
and the loud screeches
of the black
cockatoos as
they were also visiting in their hundreds. There weren't too many
people around and we enjoyed the walk. We also saw Grey
kangaroos,
kookaburras,
ring necked
parrots,
and many small
birds. After
collecting some Black Cockatoo feathers
from off the
ground, and studying all the different seed
pods that we found
we headed home. Yanchep makes a great day visit. It is not far to
drive and it has all the normal facilities to make your visit
enjoyable, not to mention the wildlife!
UPDATE!!
All around the lake we could hear the Glauret's froglet. Check out our to see more on this frog.
