Unknown Frogs

These are the frogs that we have found but have not been able to get a positive identification on due to the fact that we do not collect the frogs for any lab tests or the frog was an immature frog or the frog was not making any calls. We realise that some organisations do need to collect frogs for research and study but we prefer to study the frogs in their natural environment.

We do not dig frogs up.

These frogs were seen at Piney Lakes Perth in November 17.  Check out the long middle toe on the back foot.

Piney Lakes April 16.  Some Glauret's froglets have bumpy skin and some are smooth skinned, this makes it difficult to identify frogs.  This frog was 18mm long from snout to vent.

This is the underside of the little frog on the left.  It has unusual webbed toes.

Piney Lakes April 16.  We have not been able to identify either of these frogs.  They are possibly young Glauret's Froglets.

Ellen Brook Reserve north of Perth, this tiny froglet was found after a fire had been through.  There were no sounds of frogs on this day.

Spot the frog.  It is the same frog from Ellen Brook Reserve.

This may be a Desert Tree Frog.  It was seen on Marble Bar Rd in the Pilbara at the end of December.

Piney Lakes in Perth is a sandy suburban swamp and bushland.  We at first thought this could be a slender Tree frog as they are common here but this frog does not have the right toes, to be a slender tree frog it would need to have digits for clinging on to plants.  This frog also had a very bony spine showing through its skin.

This photograph was taken on September 3 by Peter Martinovich in the town of Kununurra which is right at the top of Western Australia near the Northern Territory boarder.

This frog was white underneath and when it leapt in the air it kicked out all its legs.

Something odd is going on here at The Lakes on the South West Hwy.  Here is what looks like a slender tree frog (the only one seen here) with a squelching froglet in a compromising position.  They were hanging on above the water in the reeds which is normal behaviour for the slender tree frog, but it is not known if the squelching froglet would attempt to mate with this larger frog.

This is the front of the pair.  I observed them for around 5 minutes like this but disturbed them when taking these photographs.  Maybe the squelching froglet was just hitching a ride and was to scared to jump back down into the water or maybe they were sharing body heat?

There were frogs in the gorges at Karijini National Park in the Pilbara over Christmas.  These frogs make the most of water flowing in this dry region often these species develop faster than the average frog.

These along with 100's more eggs were found submerged at Lane Pool Reserve south of Dwellingup at the Baden Powell pool in late February.

This frog was also found on Marble Bar Rd in December in the Pilbara.  It was different from the others with the strong line going down the centre of its back.  It was a large frog with digging toes and dark back markings.

I wasn't able to distinguish this frogs calls from the many possible Main's Frogs that were calling on the road side.

This tiny frog was seen at Brixton Street Conservation Park, Beckenham, Perth in October.  This area has clay and sand but does not stay wet all year.

I have heard Moaning frogs, Glaurets Froglet and Trilling Frogs here.

This tiny frog was seen in Byford at Blackwood Reserve in September.
